Webster’s dictionary defines "mentor" as "a trusted friend or advisor". Studies have shown that a mentor relationship can be one of the most important relationships in a child’s development.
The Creative Mentoring program’s objective is to help each volunteer become a friend to a Delaware school child who is in need of a one-to-one relationship.
Our purpose is to help the child become all he or she can be by helping to build self esteem, self confidence, interpersonal communication skills, social values, aspirations, and scholastic achievement.
Our ultimate goal is to assist a child in finding and developing his or her unique qualities. We want our mentors to know they are special people who are truly making a difference.
Who Are Creative Mentors?
We serve over 1,300 children in grades K-8 in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties.
68% of us are female, 32% are male.
We range in age from 21 - 80+.
We work one-on-one with one to five children.
We volunteer over 30,000 hours per year in Delaware public schools.
Our mentor training sessions are based on our award winning Mentor Training Manual. The three and a half hour session covers the Creative Mentoring ® process, appropriate and inappropriate roles for in-school mentors, and listening and communication skills essential to successful mentoring relationships.
