Anne Marie Fahey Award Winners

CREATIVE MENTORING'S ANNE MARIE FAHEY AWARD NOMINATION

As the individual who most influenced former Governor Carper to become an active mentoring advocate and recruiter of volunteer mentors throughout our state, Anne Marie Fahey was singularly important in the growth of in-school mentoring in Delaware. Her interest and commitment led to a volunteer movement that today serves literally thousands and thousands of children in Delaware schools. By way of acknowledging her efforts and to keep the spirit that Anne Marie brought to mentoring alive and well, Creative Mentoring created the Anne Marie Fahey Mentoring Award. This award is presented each school year to an individual who, like Anne Marie, has had a significant impact upon the growth and/or development of in-school mentoring within the community.

Nominations are accepted from any Delaware public school mentoring program as well as from businesses and community organizations that partner with these schools. Schools and other qualifying organizations may select their nominees in any way they wish.  A panel of judges appointed by Creative Mentoring, including a member of Anne Marie’s family and a member of the Creative Grandparenting, Inc. ® Board, reviews all nominations and presents awards at a selected mentor appreciation event. (Certificates of Acknowledgement are also sent to each nominee.)

Those persons nominated must be actively mentoring a child or children in a Delaware public school OR actively involved with a Delaware public school-based mentoring program as a business or community organization partner.  A mentor for the purposes of this award is defined as an individual who spends a minimum of 30 minutes each week one-on-one with a child during the school day and whose work with that child is not limited to academic tutoring but rather a variety of activities based upon the individual child’s needs.
