Creative Mentoring Statistics

These are some of the changes teachers reported they observed in students involved in a Creative Mentoring program during the 2004 - 2005 School Year:*

    81% increased in self confidence

    72% increased their self-esteem

    67% are better able to express their feelings

    65% improved their grades overall

    63% improved their attitudes toward learning

    62% demonstrated better cooperation

    60% participated more frequently in class

    60% worked better with others

    57% improved in completing assigned tasks

    56% improved their reading skills

    56% became more responsible

    55% improved their ability to make decisions

    55% showed more initiative
    61% improved in their ability to relate to other adults
    55% were better in following directions

    54% paid better attention
    54% improved their self control
    52% improved in language arts
    50% improved in math

    94% of teachers recommended that their student continue in the mentoring program the following year

Parents were even more enthusiastic. They reported having seen the following changes in their children after being involved in a Creative Mentoring program during the 2004 - 2005 School Year:*

    88% increased self-confidence

    79% were better able to express their feelings

    78% became more responsible

    75% demonstrated more self control
    75% improved attitude towards learning

    74% were better in following directions

    74% improved in language arts

    74% paid better attention

    74% demonstrated better self-control

    73% worked better with others

    72% increased in reading

    72% improved their ability to make decisions

    71% improved their classroom behavior

    71% participated more frequently in class

    70% worked better independently

    68% improved in math

    68% improved their grades overall

    68% improved their relations with peers


    95% of parents recommended that their child continue in the mentoring program the following year.

Mentor assessments were very similar to those of teachers. They reported the following changes in their mentees at the end of the school year:*

    80% increased their self confidence

    75% are better able to express their feelings

    65% became more responsible

    64% improved their attitudes toward learning

    61% demonstrated more self control

    61% were better at following directions
    60% improved their relationship with peers

    59% improved their ability to make decisions

    59% improved their classroom behavior

    59% participated more in class

    59% improved in completing assigned tasks

    59% improved their overall academic performance

    57% showed more respect for adults

    55% thinks more before acting

    54% showed more initiative

    52% had a better sense of the future

     

    78% of mentors plan to continue mentoring for another school year

    97% of mentors rate the quality of Creative Mentoring mentor training as good or very good.

But what do the children have to say about their mentoring experience this year? Here's what they told us:*

    98% like spending time with their mentors

    92% can talk to their mentors about all kinds of things
    90% learn new things from their mentors
    89% want to have a mentor again next year

    86% hope to get the same mentor again next year
    82% like school better because of their mentors
    77% say they are doing better in school because of their mentors

     

    Additional Notes:

    60% of mentees are male; 40% are female

    33% of mentors are male; 67% are female

    39% of mentored children are in grades K-2; 54% are in grades 3-5; and 7% are in grades 6-8.

    69% of Creative Mentors have been mentoring for 3 or more years.  Some mentors have been mentoring in our program since 1991

    25% of Creative Mentors mentor 2 or more children. Some mentors mentor as many as 6 children.
